Welcome to the Southern California Horticultural Society, where passionate gardeners meet to share ideas and knowledge.
Note: Our September meeting is replaced with our special
2008 Annual Award Banquet
Honoring Horticulturist of the Year Shirley Kerins
The banquet will be held at the Huntington Botanical Gardens in San Marino.
Please see our Awards Banquet page for details.
Please note our new domain name: socalhort.org (previously socahort.org).
Each month we invite speakers to present a talk or program about their area of expertise. SCHS Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month, and usually include a digital or film slide presentation accompanied by handouts. Speakers are happy to answer questions from the audience. We also have an Opportunity Drawing at each meeting with plants provided by nurseries, botanic gardens or private collectors.
The Plant Forum table is fun! Members are encouraged to bring cuttings or plants from their gardens to display. Contributors receive a free raffle ticket. Later in the evening a local expert will lead a brief discussion about the plants. What an interesting way to learn!
SCHS Publications can be purchased at the monthly meetings. Plants, used and new books and magazines are also often for sale at the meetings.
Join us today and receive our monthly SCHS Newsletter (PDF) and Green Sheets (highlights from the monthly Plant Forum) plus the award-winning Pacific Horticulture magazine (a $25 value). Many professional botanists, nurserymen & women, landscape architects & designers, students and consultants are also members. Our members grow an astounding array of plants in and around the LA Basin such as annuals, perennials, cacti and succulents, orchids, native plants and more. We also arrange members-only tours of private gardens and other garden related outings.
